  • B.I Gifts Fans with Memories to Remember for a Lifetime in Back-to-Back Fan Meetings

B.I Gifts Fans with Memories to Remember for a Lifetime in Back-to-Back Fan Meetings

Words and photos by Danica Lacson

It’s BIN a while, but Filipino IDs’ cosmos came back — B.I came back.

Multi-hyphenated South Korean superstar Kim Hanbin, also known by his stage B.I, made a comeback to the Philippine concert stage with jam-packed shows last August 27 at the New Frontier Theater. Due to the overwhelming love of his fans, the initially one-time-only show turned into back-to-back fan meetings.

The singer-songwriter, who marked his first solo fan meeting in the country via B.I 1ST FAN MEETING [B.I OFFLINE] IN MANILA, expressed happiness and gratitude to Filipino IDs who came to see him and watch him perform live once again. “Hello, Philippines! This is B.I. Really good to see you, guys, again. Long time no see. I love you,” he greeted, adding that he missed his Filipino fans.

The fans reciprocated the sweet words with loud cheers and never-dying down energy that got the K-Pop star saying that Filipino fans are truly the loudest. True enough, Philippine IDs got the New Frontier Theater echoing with resounding cheers of love and admiration for the idol they have waited for and longed to see.

B.I opened the shows with tracks from his debut studio album, Waterfall which was released in 2021. At the 1 p.m. show, the singer-songwriter kicked off the day’s festivity with “Waterfall” and “Illa Illa”, while he changed up the songs’ order in the 7 p.m. show as he started with “Illa Illa”, followed by “Waterfall”.

    All Attention on Kim Hanbin

After the fired-up performances, he slowed it down a bit with a fun game of “What’s in the Box” where he had to guess what is inside the box. But knowing IDs quite well, B.I commented that the crowd will definitely be more interested in the punishments. No lies in there as the cheers grew louder as the singer-songwriter take on every punishment — regardless if he succeeded in guessing or not.

The singer-songwriter showed off his amazing dancing skills and ability to learn choreography fast as he bravely challenged IVE’s “Love Dive” and NewJeans’ “Attention” at the 1 p.m. show and aespa’s “Next Level” and Red Velvet’s “Feel My Rhythm” at the 7 p.m. show. In addition, he also did push-ups! According to him, doing such exercise is easy for him as he does it all the time. He also jumped into the Extraordinary Attorney Woo bandwagon with Philippine IDs where they did their own version of the “Woo to the Young to the Woo” greeting popularized in the drama.

A special recorded interview got everyone exclaiming “cute” with dogs Tan and Milk joining him. During the interview, the K-Pop star talked about various things including music, food, interests, and more. He shared about how invested he is in the bucket list as it puts himself in a new environment and a new situation. According to him, through that, a new inspiration arises. He also shared that for the bucket list, he wishes to try living in Jeju Island for a month or living without cellphone for a month. “I want to visit the guesthouse and relax without thinking about the world and life,” he said.

“Love you to the cosmos and back”: A beautiful due with IDs

B.I returned on stage with “Lover” and “Flame”, tracks from his second studio album, Cosmos. The intensity of the performances resonated in the arena as the rapper did not hold back in giving his all for the stage.

After the impressive stages, he then set aside his cool B.I persona to be everyone’s gentle and sweet boyfriend Hanbin in the “Date Balance” game. For the 1 p.m. show, Philippine IDs gushed at how adorable he was in a duck onesie as he went around the stage hopped in an inflatable unicorn. The 7 p.m. show took fans back to the Joseon era on a date with scholar Kim Hanbin. We are 100 percent sure that following that game, Philippine IDs fell deeper in love with THE KIM HANBIN thanks to being the most considerate and adorable one-day boyfriend for his fans.

But if you think fans cannot fall any deeper in love with him, B.I continued to charm everyone and enchant with his moves and swag in his performance of “BTBT”, a collaboration with Soulja Boy and DeVita released this 2022.

Another collaboration was made that day between B.I and Philippine IDs through a beautiful duet of “Cosmos”. Truly, they are each other’s cosmos as they sing along and light up the New Frontier Theater together.

B.I then performed “Re-Birth”. “Re-Birth is not a farewell nor a one-sided feeling,” he said during the recorded special interview with Tan and Milk when asked on what song would he like to stay in.

And “Re-Birth” took a more emotional meaning that evening as the singer-songwriter personally dedicated it to a Philippine ID who recently passed away. “I was told about someone who should have been here tonight. Out of respect for the privacy of the family, I won’t say much more. The next song is called “Re-Birth”. I dedicate this song for her,” B.I said before singing the song.

Filipino IDs to B.I: “Thank you for finding your way back to us.”

The back-to-back fan meetings of B.I were testaments of the undying and unconditional love and support of his fans who patiently waited and trusted Kim Hanbin and his promise to come back. In a special video presentation at the 1 p.m. show, Filipino IDs relayed a touching message to the singer-songwriter.

We finally crossed over the rough road. In this new road that we’re gonna take, we promise to hold your hands tighter. Because no matter what road you take, Filipino IDs will be with you. There’s no need for you to find us… because we will always come to you first. But thank you for finding your way back to us.

Filipino IDs’ special message to B.I during the 1 p.m. show

Meanwhile, the 7 p.m. show saw fans dedicate a heartwarming song number for B.I which they showed thru a video presentation — “Remember that we are and will be with you no matter what.” The video showed fans’ support to the K-Pop star, as well as, words of thanks dedicated to him. “Thank you for coming back to us.”

    With love,

    Filipino IDs who are here

who are at their home and were not able to join

and Lovely Anne who is now watching us from Heaven

Filipino IDs’ ending video message at the 7 p.m. show

B.I expressed his gratitude to fans for being with him and preparing special messages. He also promised to come back and meet them again with more songs. He added that in autumn, IDs can look forward to a new global EP from him.

B.I closed the show with “Remember Me”, a song from his Waterfall album.

The back-to-back fan meetings were the singer-songwriter’s final shows with Manila serving as the last stop of his fan meeting tour. Truly serving the best for last as the fan meeting events filled our eyes and ears with the best performances by one of K-Pop’s most talented acts and warmed our hearts with the touching love and support of Philippine IDs and B.I to one another.

The B.I 1ST FAN MEETING [B.I OFFLINE] IN MANILA shows deserve to be remembered for a lifetime.

Special thanks to Three Angles Production for the media invites. The B.I 1ST FAN MEETING [B.I OFFLINE] IN MANILA was presented by Three Angles Production.

  • Alexander 23 Talks About New Album, Upcoming Concert, and More

Alexander 23 Talks About New Album, Upcoming Concert, and More

Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Alexander 23 is coming to the Philippines on September 3 at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura, bringing so much excitement to fans who canโ€™t wait to hear his music live. And the singer-songwriter is equally excited to visit the country and perform in front of his supporters.

Prior to the concert, Alexander 23 met members of the press for a round table media interview via video conferencing last August 4 where he talked about his upcoming show and what heโ€™s most excited about bringing his music to the Philippine concert stage.

Press: What excites you the most about visiting the Philippines?

Alexander 23: What excites you the most? Wow, itโ€™s very hard, well I mean the easy and quick answer is FOOD! I am very excited to try all the food but aside from that, I think what is so exciting is that Iโ€™ve been doing these zooms for the past 2 years I think since โ€œIDK you yetโ€ came out, and itโ€™s been such an honor and privilege to get to know everyone through the computer but, Iโ€™m just really looking forward to like getting that in-person interaction and that real interpersonal connection that you canโ€™t feel over the computer.

P: What is your initial reaction upon learning that you will be having a show in Manila soon?

A: I was likeโ€ฆ F.I.N.A.L.L.Y!!! Oh my god, this has been on top of my list for so long so, it was like a sense of relief and immediate joy I mean, I would tell like people in the Philippines have been outstandingly kind and supportive to me and of my music and so I feel that the least I can do is reciprocate that and come to a show!

P: What would be your favorite song to perform live and why?

A: I will answer in two parts, I am very excited to play โ€œIDK You Yetโ€ live because there are so many places in the world, I still havenโ€™t gotten to do that one yet. You know Iโ€™ve gotten to do it around the states but so many other people around the world connected to that song so Iโ€™m excited to do that one in Manila.
But, from the new album, I really like playing โ€œSomebodyโ€™s Nobodyโ€ lives, thatโ€™s a really fun one I think, thatโ€™s probably one of my favorites from the new one.

P: What can you say about your Filipino fans, and can you tell us about your connection with them?

A: First of all, even the fact that I have a Filipino fan is mind-blowing to me. I grew up in the mid-west, in the middle of the United States, so the fact that anyone in the Philippines knows who I am is already something that I am grateful for. And, like I was saying before, I just have felt just so much kindness from them and theyโ€™ve been so unconditionally supportive of me as a person and as a musician so itโ€™s an enormous THANK YOU!

P: You recently performed at Lollapalooza โ€“ one of the biggest US Music festivals. Tell us about the experience of performing on the stage in Chicago where you are from?

A: It is AMAZING for so many reasons. The fact that I got to look out into the crowd and see not only that just sea of people but also see my family and my friends who I grew up with made it especially special. Something Iโ€™m going to remember forever.

P: Is there any artist you want to collaborate with and if you can tell us about your collaboration process with this album was there enough time to talk about breakups and unrequited loves in between your collaboration sessions?

A: Yeah, luckily the collaborations were a really good opportunity to talk about the kind of stuff that I was going through emotionally. I am really really particular with who I collaborate with, and thatโ€™s why historically I havenโ€™t worked with that many people. In this album, I kinda made it a point to bring some people whom I trusted both musically of course but, also emotionally and felt really safe or so. Itโ€™s so nice to kinda get some new energy into my music. And then as far as the people that I hope to collaborate with there are definitely a lot of people out there. I think right now on top of the list is an artist called Kacey Musgraves whom I am a super huge fan of! Sheโ€™s incredible and one of my favorite songwriters.

P: What was it like collaborating with Charlie Puth and Olivia Rodrigo?

A: It was great! I feel very fortunate that some of my closest friends are some of my biggest musical heroes! And people that I just think or so are unbelievably talented. To get to steal their skill set little but for my own music is such a cool thing for me to get to do. It was a fun kind of hand-picking different friends to ask to be involved in my album.

P: Could you tell us about your song โ€œHate Me If It Helpsโ€? How did you get inspired to write the song or were there any real-life experiences you would like to share that are connected to it?

A: The song for me is definitely kind of a journey. Itโ€™s kind of the first time I allowed myself to be kind of angry in a song and just kind of mad and stuff. Itโ€™s about the feeling of wanting someone to just get over you at all costs. But then when it comes down to them actually hating you, that still hurts. Itโ€™s still something that doesnโ€™t feel good even if you also want them to be able to move on. Kind of just about super conflicting feelings.

Press: You wrote โ€œIDK You Yetโ€ because you had a void in your heart during the pandemic and a lot of people related to that. Do you think music in some ways filled up that void? And how are you now? Are you better?

Alexander 23: Thatโ€™s a good question! I donโ€™t think anyone asked me if Iโ€™m better. You know what I think I am better. Whatever โ€œBETTERโ€ means, I think I am at the very least BETTER than I was before for sure!

P: During the pandemic, you did a lot of stuff like cooking did it helps with your music or your other hobbies?

A: Yes, for me, I always to be doing other million things at once. Like if Iโ€™m only doing music, I kind of drive myself crazy you know. So, itโ€™s important for me to have other creative endeavors that I am doing as well.

P: Did you enjoy it? Or did you actually cook a lot of stuff?

A: Yes, I do a decent amount of cooking. I traveled a lot so itโ€™s hard to do it consistently but, whenever Iโ€™m in Los Angeles for more than a few days then Iโ€™m definitely cooking.

P: On a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being the highest how excited are you to finally perform in Manila?

    A: I would say Iโ€™m about 23 out of 10 excited!

P: How does it feel to have finally released a full-length debut album?

A: It feels amazing! Iโ€™ve talked about this a little bit today. I think one of the coolest parts about it is, that when you put a single out, you get to see who relates to that single and thatโ€™s so special. But, when you put an album out, you get to see the wide array of things that people picked from the album something they identified with and itโ€™s cool to see what the people picked and where different people are drawn towards.

P: Your album is about many things and can be about the breakup as well. How did music become therapy to you as you experienced this?

A: I think I used music as a place I put all of these feelings, so I donโ€™t need to feel them anymore. Itโ€™s always been like that, a lot of stuff I talked about in my songs is not things it’s fun to feel thatโ€™s why some people relate to them so much! But I like to wash my hands to them and leave them there and so itโ€™s been really a powerful tool for me to deal with some of the heavier emotional stuff that life can sick and throw you away.

Alexander 23 did not let the opportunity pass to throw his own questions as he asked about what Filipino food item he definitely must try during his Manila visit and on the general opinion of Filipinos about Americans.

Closing the interview, the Chicago-bred artist relayed his excitement to perform in the country. โ€œI will see you on September 3. It feels good and I canโ€™t wait,โ€ he remarked.

Alexander 23 Live in Manila is happening on September 3 at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura. Tickets are available via SM Tickets outlets and online thru www.smtickets.com.

    Ticket prices are as follows:

    • Floor Standing – Php 2,660
    • Balcony – Php 1,920

In his introduction ment and amid the “Kim Yugyeom” cheers, the GOT7 member greeted Ahgases with “Mabuhay, Philippines” and his brightest smile — much to the delight of the crowd who have been waiting for his return. He expressed his happiness on seeing a lot of Ahgases.

Truly, it was hard not to fall deeper in love with the GOT7 member who made sure that Ahgases who came to see him that Friday night got to experience the best party as he delivers the smoothest vocals in every performance.

That night was definitely all about Yugyeom. Coming back to the Philippine concert stage after almost three years and after signing with AOMG, the singer-songwriter has definitely grown as an artist and as a performer. And that growth was more evident as, for the first time, he stood on the Philippine concert stage as a solo artist.

He turned the excitement a step higher with “Take You Down”, “Lights”, and “All Your Fault”, before being the cutest tease during the remixed version of Jay Park’s “Mommae” and “All I Wanna Do”. With the smoothest groove and sexiest moves, Yugyeom reminded everyone that he is one of K-Pop’s best dancers.

He was mesmerizing and undeniably captivating as he takes over the stage with effortless charm and talent. He was the best entertainer, turning the venue into a big party where everyone felt free to move to the music, scream loud, and enjoy every bit of the moment. Always ready to perform and always sure to give the best show, Yugyeom continued to captivate with “Always Ready” and “Love the Way”.

But a GOT7 member concert will never be complete without reminding everyone of their roots. The maknae of GOT7 hard carried in his performance of “Hard Carry”. Screams grew louder as the singer-songwriter went around the standing section to interact with fans. He went on to perform “Two” before closing his set with a performance of “1+1”.

Before ending the show, Yugyeom promised to return to the Philippines and sweetly declared his unending support for Ahgases. “I will continue rooting for Philippine Ahgases,” he said. And that love was reciprocated with Philippine Ahgases’ promise that “Ahgase will always hold your hand”.

YUGYEOM LIVE IN MANILA ended with every fan leaving with spirited smiles — happy to see Yugyeom and spend Friday night cheering loud, dancing and singing along, and getting hyped with their fellow Ahgases. Lucky fans got to personally say their “see you again” to the GOT7 member through the goodbye session. In addition, prior to the start of the show, some took part in a meet-and-greet event with Yugyeom.

Special thanks to PULP Live World for the invitation to the event.

  • All Time Low Gives a Monday Therapy in Comeback Concert in Manila

All Time Low Gives a Monday Therapy in Comeback Concert in Manila

All Time Low returns to the Philippines!

For the first time in five years, Baltimore pop-punk legends, All Time Low, returned to the Manila stage on August 15 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Presented by PULP Live World, All Time Low Live in Manila was a showcase of the band’s remarkable legacy.

Without realizing they were onto something big, All Time Low started as a high school band in 2003. In less than two years after their formation, the band went from covering the music of punk bands like Blink-182 to signing with Emerald Moon Records. They now have more than 3.3 million fans on Facebook and have headlined music festivals around the world.

Yet, All Time Low is definitely not your average rock band. It’s unusual for bands to maintain their original lineup for this long, especially without introducing new members, but they managed to do it for 18 years — and Monday night’s happenings were a testament to why All Time Low remains a solid figure in the music scene.

Before All Time Low took over the stage, headbanging and bouncing got the night’s festivities started when Chicosci took the stage with a short 30-minute set. They were the perfect band to get the audience in the mood as they screamed and jumped all over the stage and played their hits for the audience such as “Paris”, “A Promise”, “Social Club”, and “Rasberry”, before ending their set with “Diamond Shotgun”.

Following the hyped-up opening set of Chicosci and with lights dimmed, All Time Low took the stage — and I knew, from that very moment, that I was in for one of the best concerts I’d ever seen. The Baltimore boys started the party with their opening song, “Lost in Stereo” with strings of confetti ribbons thrown into the air which immediately got the audience dancing to the upbeat music they played. I could feel the energy and bass bouncing off the walls and through your bones, thanks to the band’s chemistry and the hilarious remarks throughout the show.

The opening song was immediately followed by a track from the Last Young Renegade album, called “Dark Side of Your Room”. The band also touched on new songs such as “Sleeping In” and “Some Kind of Disaster” from their eighth studio album, Wake Up Sunshine.

“This is fucking incredible. My mind is blown right now. There are so many of you and you’re singing so loud,” frontman Alex Gaskarth said before performing “Missing You”. The lyrics of the song resonated with a wonderful message as it speaks of the futility of trying to fight an addiction to drugs, depression, or anything else fatal. They are “missing out” because they are isolated from the world and, in most cases, succumb to their addiction. The song is an encouragement to reclaim one’s life from such vices, and it promises that a friend will be there to provide a hand if one needs it. “Missing You” is no doubt the most meaningful song by All Time Low.

All Time Low kept saying how much fun they were having and how the Manila crowd was one of their favorite audiences and a notable change from their usual shows. It’s cliche to say as bands have a bad habit of overusing the phrase, but it sounded so sincere when they said it. They didn’t engage in the usual obscene, gimmicky banter between songs, but instead repeatedly expressed their gratitude to the audience for coming out to see them.

They returned for an encore performance of three songs. The encore began with “PMA”, followed by “Therapy”, the most requested song of the night. Prior to playing “Therapy”, they requested the support of the audience as they sang the song. It was one of the biggest moments of the entire show, probably because I could feel the audience’s feelings as they sang to it. Cannons fired off bursts of confetti as they closed the show with their signature hit, “Dear Maria, Count Me In”.

Even though they’re on the road to promoting their latest album, Wake Up Sunshine, the band’s repertoire featured songs from all of their albums — pleasing both longtime fans and newcomers.

Pop-punk fans were not disappointed by Monday night’s performance and the crowd left with a clear understanding of why they’ve been around for so long.

Special thanks to PULP Live World.

  • Lay Zhang of EXO to headline METAMOON Music Festival this November in New York City

Lay Zhang of EXO to headline METAMOON Music Festival this November in New York City

(Manila, Philippines, August 19, 2022) – The MetaMoon Music Festival, a festival and cultural experience to celebrate the Asian American diaspora, is coming to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, 26 November 2022.

Founded by Hong Kong-based Graceful Media and produced in partnership with Live Nation, the inaugural MetaMoon Music Festival will showcase the global reach and impact of Asian artists, music, and fans, while emphasizing the culturally rich and diverse communities in Brooklyn and across New York City.

One of the festival highlights for its first year includes Lay Zhang from K-pop supergroup EXO, who will be headlining the event. The award-winning Chinese singer-songwriter/actor is expected to bring an exciting performance to share with his fans around the world. MetaMoon Music Festival will also feature performers from Asia, including many who will be making their United States debut like 9m88, Karencici, ร˜ZI, and Sury Su, who will be making their arena debuts in the US. More artists and special guests are expected to be announced and American rapper-comedian MC Jin will host the evening. Tickets are available online at seatgeek.com and barclayscenter.com.

“There is a great need for stronger Asian representation in pop culture and the media, and the mission of MetaMoon Music Festival is to give artists the ability to shine from a prominent stage in the heart of Brooklyn,” said Grace Chen, Founder of Graceful Media. “Now more than ever, music is truly a global language, and talent, no matter where they come from, will resonate with fans across cultures if given the opportunity to share their passion and creativity.”

MetaMoon Music Festival’s mission is to bridge the gap between Asia and the United States and show that music is a universal language. The Asian community has been historically underrepresented in American entertainment. Now more than ever, cultural exchanges and the power of pop culture can counteract the polarizing politics and geopolitical challenges in society.

Graceful Media set out to create a platform in the United States for Asian and Asian American artists, who may not receive the visibility they deserve, to have a space where their fans can connect and celebrate while discovering new music and artists. New York City has the most prominent Asian-American population in the United States โ€“ almost 15% of the entire city’s population โ€“ making Barclays Center the perfect host venue for the festival.

“Live Nation is committed to creating endless opportunities to connect artists of all genres and backgrounds with their fans,” said Geoff Gordon, Regional President, Live Nation Northeast. “The inaugural MetaMoon Music Festival will inspire and create new and exciting opportunities for many of today’s Asian artists, from both here and abroad, to shine brightly, and engage their fans in this epic and unforgettable event.”

“Since opening our doors in 2012, Barclays Center has hosted some of the biggest names in the music industry, bringing countless fans and artists together in the heart of Brooklyn,” said Laurie Jacoby, Executive Vice President and Chief Entertainment Officer at BSE Global, parent company of Barclays Center. “Our goal is for MetaMoon Music Festival to highlight the importance of the Asian community while simultaneously celebrating the diverse and exciting culture of our city.”
