Nam Joo Hyuk’s First Fan Meet in Manila Was A Night To Remember

It was a memorable Saturday night for Nam Joo Hyuk’s Pinoy fans.

More than 4,000 fans gathered at the KIA Theater to catch a glimpse of the South Korean actor in the recently concluded ‘Weightlifting Fairy,’ a K-drama series on ABS-CBN.

Nam Joo Hyuk’s first-ever fan meet in Manila was a huge success. Various programs were organized during the event and let him and his fans interact and have fun. The South Korean actor charmed fans by doing fun games with them, giving them hugs and roses, and singing songs. Screams erupted around the KIA Theatre throughout the program, especially as the actor also sang a few lines of Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ and the audience joined in. He shared stories about his childhood and his career, sharing that he had started out as a basketball player before moving on to modeling and then to acting.

The popularity of Nam Joo Hyuk, who also starred in Cheese in the Trap and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo was evident with how fans crowded the whole theatre, trying to take a photo of him, getting his attention using creative homemade banners and cards. He appeared to be rather shy and during the interview portions, where he said that he was pleasantly surprised by the number of fans who came to see him for this event.

During the event, the actor recreated scenes from his recent drama The Bride of Habaek, in which he played a charismatic Water God. He also made gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) for his fans. The crowd went wild while Oppa Joo Hyuk took his time to answer the question “What is your charm?” His answer was his height. Most the fans is screaming that it’s his eyes, while some screamed “abs!!!”, and others yelled “smileeeee”.

Touched by the fans, the actor shed tears, promising to be back. We don’t know when, but we certainly hope he wouldn’t make us wait too long. After all, we are still trying to cope with the withdrawal symptoms of not seeing him after his fan meeting last weekend. “I will say goodbye here with my last performance and I hope we’ll be happier when we meet again.” Joo Hyuk ended the night with a song called ‘Baekya’ (White Night) by Zitten.

Nam Joo Hyuk shared that he is in the midst of preparing for a new drama and hope everybody will anticipate it. Fans of Nam Joo Hyuk do stay tune for his upcoming works! The Water God promised to be back in Manila, and then the fans went wild and crazy in love with him, truly this man is “suwweeeg.”

  • Respeto: A Movie You Should Not Miss.

Respeto: A Movie You Should Not Miss.

We had a chance to see the much lauded movie last night during its full house screening in UP Diliman Film Center and we were blown away. Before the screening, Rekta sa Kalye, a group of rappers who conduct street performances, took the stage to give the audience a glimpse of the booming local hip hop scene. Quite frankly, this was the proper premise to the movie we were about to see.

Hailed as the Best Film of the recently concluded Cinemalaya Film Festival, “Respeto” follows the story of Hendrix, played by Abra, an adolescent who lives and breathes in the slums of Pandacan. Embroiled in a decaying urban environment, imminent with the threat of demolitions, crimes and tokhang, he finds solace in rapping and in his dream of making it big one day. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Doc, an old reclusive poet who runs a thrift bookstore across the neighborhood. Their unlikely friendship brought about changes that would patch up their past wounds and open new ones.

“Respeto” provided a gripping portrayal of the cyclical oppression in our society and how it pushes people to mercilessly succumb to it. The story fleshed out the characters in a very simplistic yet realistic way, making their struggles more human and their reflections more distinctly affecting. Highlighted by a sophisticated cinematography style, the scenes featured a diversely vibrant landscape of the underground world the characters move around.

An outstanding element of “Respeto” is the music. As it delved deep into the local underground hip hop scene, it featured many remarkable rappers who showed their skills during their ad-lib rap battles. Even the actors themselves had as much talent to show for it. Moreover, it’s amazing how the film flawlessly merged poetry and rap into its core. There’s a subtle musical quality even as when the characters were just delivering their lines, truly a marvel to watch.

“Respeto” is currently being screened in theaters nationwide. Do yourself a favor and see it.

Relive the Sound of a Generation as Smart Music Live Presents: GetMusic NU Rock Years

It’s been claimed that the advent of local Pinoy Rock in the 70s was the golden age of the genre – mainly because the urgency of the times produced local artists who would forever pave the way and influence those who were lucky enough to witness it first-hand. Even so, the following decades would prove to be a continuous uphill battle for the music to find its proper place in mainstream music.

  • GA Tickets for Bruno Mars Now Being Resold at P11000

GA Tickets for Bruno Mars Now Being Resold at P11000

The social media blew up when it was announced that that Bruno Mars will be bringing his “24K Magic World Tour” to Manila next year.

Tickets for his third Manila show on May 3, 2018 went live at 10am yesterday and was reportedly sold out in less than an hour. As expected, several tickets are already being resold by scalpers at inflated price.

The prices for Mars’ upcoming concert are between P2650 for General Admission and P23850 for VIP 1 Standing. Following the announcement of Mar’s sold out show, many have taken to social media to request for Day 2 which was granted and announced by MMI Live yesterday at 3pm. As at time of writing, day 2 is reportedly selling out and could be gone in a few hours but unlucky fans should not lose hope because some tickets will still be available due to invalid credit cards and fraud.

A quick observation at the price range shows that tickets for General Admission are now being resold at P11,000 That’s almost 4 times the original price. Meanwhile tickets for VIP are being resold between P34,000-P38.000. Is anyone desperate enough to fork out this much cash for Bruno Mars? What could the government and industry do to prevent selling of tickets at inflated prices?
