  • 7 Things You Did Not Know About The Chainsmokers

7 Things You Did Not Know About The Chainsmokers

    The Chainsmokers poster

From ground-breaking performances, to their wild acts, and now a world tour running, these two gents have been storming each country with their addicting productions and this August, they are about to bring the party here to the Philippines! But before we see them live, here are a few trivial facts about a few of their tracks and how this duo came to be!

    1. The Chainsmokers pre-performance ritual
Before getting onto the stage, some artists have vocal warm ups and some sweat it out, but for this duo, it’s a different scenario. Imagine them having a few drinks (or a lot in a number of shows) before they turn the stage upside down, or punch each other in the face just to hype the party monsters in them. They also drown themselves with either steak or espressos to turn their bodies up for a massive and unforgettable moment upstage!

    2. The name “Chainsmokers” seemed clever
Their name didn’t actually have any historical background or any sentimental meaning for them. Their name “Chainsmokers” was used just because it sounded clever for them and the domains were open. No one could’ve imagined that it would get this big and awesome for them, right? I mean, 443,792,938 views just for one track? How awesome could they get!
    3. Soundcloud was the first home of The Chainsmokers. Before achieving the success they have now, The Chainsmokers used to upload their tracks in Soundcloud. It was a matter of expressing their musical passion and their intention to share it with the world.

    4. You’ve been singing their track “Roses” wrong! Their biggest track of 2015, “Roses,” was the anthem of every gathering you could think of! But do you honestly and wholeheartedly know the lyrics of that song? Well here are some lyrics you’ve been mistakenly hearing (or singing in the shower perhaps):

    Misheard Lyrics:
Take it slow, but it’s not typical
He already knows my love is fine
His heart’s of stone, his hands roam
I told him to go, but he took it hard
    Original Lyrics:
Taking it slow, but it’s not typical
He already knows that my love is fire
His heart was a stone, but then his hands roamed
I turned him to gold and it took him higher

    5. You would think this duo was in a long-term friendship… absolutely NOT.
Before all the music, the parties, and the mixing, they were total strangers to each other. According to a telephone interview they had with Up to the Sun, they were just introduced to each other by a friend of a friend. Whaaat?! Who would’ve thought that these two would be selling thousands of copies after just sharing the same passion for music! In the same interview, it was mentioned that Drew was mostly into pop tracks and Alex was the one DJing in New York but after two months of mashing mixes, they found themselves doing more legit tracks together!

    6. A bookworm and a gameplayer come together!
When they’re not in the music scene, what do these two actually do with their lives? You would think they’d be out partying, living the night, or just doing random things with their friends but nope, not at all. These two have a different side that we don’t usually get to see! Alex is actually a bookworm who loves to read novels, while Drew on the other hand loves video games, well “Call of Duty” to be exact. Well isn’t that a surprise!

    7. They take inspiration from anything and everything
These hitmakers do not pick and choose the kind of music they produce. As they say, a person born out of music produces the kind of music that inspires them. They have the passion for the art and this varies from different genres and music types. They wish to continue to evolve as performers and to be off inspiration as well to aspiring musicians. They continue with their mission which is to just mix what they think is fun!

Six International Acts at In The Mix Music Festival

Music Festival — “IN THE MIX” features International Acts The 1975, Third Eye Blind, Panic! At The Disco, James Bay, Elle King, and Twin Pines on August 18 at the MOA Arena!

MMI Live and Ovation Productions are bringing in six international acts — The 1975, Third Eye Blind, Panic! at The Disco, James Bay, Elle King, and Twin Pines—to perform in one epic night dubbed as “In The Mix”.

As one of 2016’s most-awaited music festivals, ‘In the Mix’ will feature live performances from both popular and emerging artists on August 18, 2016 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Returning to the country as promised at their Manila gig in 2015, The 1975 will be back with new materials and daring new sound with the sophomore album ‘I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It’, soared to the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart and produced the hit singles like “Love Me”, “Ugh!”, “The Sound”, and “Somebody Else”. The album was out early this year — a follow-up from their 2013 debut ‘The 1975.’ The Manchester synth-rock band was responsible of producing hits like “Chocolate”, “Girls”, and “Sex” to name a few. Alternative-rock band Third Eye Blind will also make their way back to the Philippines. Led by the hits “Semi-Charmed Life,” “Graduate,” “How’s It Going to Be,” “Losing a Whole Year,” and “Jumper,” Third Eye Blind found commercial success in the late 1990s. Their self-titled debut album Third Eye Blind reached number 25 on the Billboard 200 chart, sold six million copies and went six times platinum in the United States.  “Semi-Charmed Life” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the group a Billboard Music Award for modern rock track of the year.

After their first visit in 2008, Grammy-nominated Panic! At The Disco is also returning with the recently released fifth studio album, ‘Death of a Bachelor.’ Ten years after, the award-winning rock band’s sole remaining founding member Brendon Urie describes their fifth LP as “a mix between Sinatra and Queen” which he written alongside the likes of Ricky Wilson and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo.

Among the newcomers is 2016 Grammy’s Best New Artist nominee James Bay, who is also set to perform his collection of dusty, blues-inspired songs from his debut ‘Chaos and the Calm.’ With his notable singles “Let It Go” and “Hold Back The River,” James also nabbed Grammy nominations for ‘Best Rock Album’ and ‘Best Rock Song’ for his track ‘Hold Back the River.’

The American singer-songwriter Elle King whose debut album ‘Love Stuff’ with the single “Ex’s and Oh’s,” has risen to the top rungs of the charts months after its 2014 release and on the Billboard Hot 100. The hit also made our 26-year-old music fest headliner just the second woman in two decades (after Lorde) to top the Alternative Songs list and the only woman to lead Hot Rock Songs in 2015.
Hailing from Glasgow, frontman Barry Morrell, drummer Graham Brown, and bassist Callum McConville are a three-piece anthemic indie band known as Twin Pines- a homage to the mall in their favourite film “Back to the Future”. With a fresh and innovated sound their single “Young Heart” is scheduled for release this May. The track has already featured on E4 hit show ‘Made In Chelsea’ and has been one of the stand out tracks during the band’s recent live performances.

Concert report: Culture Club featuring Boy George

    BoyGeorge1l-20

The performance of Boy George and the Culture Club was a fruitful culmination of different struggles, and it was all a rewarding experience.

The first struggle was from the fans who waited long and long enough to see in the flesh a band whose heyday was a generation ago. given this fact, it was safe to assume that most of the concertgoers were somebody’s parents or someone’s tito or tita. What wasnt a struggle though was how the fans were able to dance and sing along with the band; it was an almost effortless summoning of hidden youth of a generation who lived to talk about their own Martial Law stories.

Heavy rain had no effect on music fans who planned on attending the second installment of MTV Music Evolution on June 24 at Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. The annual music event gathered more than 20,000 fans across the Southeast Asian region. The festival has become one of the top live music events this year, especially since there is a wide range of artists on a single bill to see. But Friday’s second annual festival will be remembered for its weather just as much as the music.
