Shawn Mendes will be bringing a playful and passionate performance to Manila on March 18, 2017 at Mall of Asia Arena.  The 17 year old teen pop sensation first began uploading videos of his covers on Vine, a social media video site and app, in 2013. Soon, his videos had been played millions of times and he had a legion of followers. This early fame was based on six-second clips of covers of many pop songs. By the summer of 2014, he was ranked number three in terms of followers on Vine. Andrew Gertler, artist manager, then came across Mendes early in 2014. He invited him to audition for Island Records, and Mendes was soon signed to the label. Island issued the teen’s single debut, “Life of the Party”, that June. The youngest musician to release a Top 25 debut on Billboard’s Hot 100, Mendes’ first song was ranked 24th in the week of July 12th, 2014.

Before getting signed to Island Records, Mendes was toured with MagCon, which included other social media stars and young artists. He had also been on a national tour as an opener for Austin Mahone. In July of 2014, Mendes released his self-titled debut. The release entered the Billboard 200 at number five, where it also peaked, and reached 48,000 in sales within a week of its release. Also that year, Mendes won Webstar in Music at the Teen Choice Awards.

In April of 2015, Mendes issued Handwritten, his debut album. It debuted at the top of Billboard’s 200, reaching 106,000 in sales within a week of its release. Like many albums, however, it decreased about 90% in sales in the second week. “Stitches”, one of the album’s singles, made a significant impact on Billboard’s Hot 100, rising to number four and becoming Mendes’ first U.S. Top 10 release. Later, it would become his first chart-topper on the mainstream charts. Mendes then recorded “Believe”, which was featured in Descendants, an original Disney Channel movie. He was also Taylor Swift’s opener for the North American leg of her 1989 World Tour.

Late in 2015, Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello and Mendes issued a collaborative single titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. It was featured on Mendes’ re-issue, Handwritten Revisited. In January of 2016, he appeared on The 100 by The CW. Also that month, “Stitches” topped the U.K. charts. Later, Mendes announced his second headlining world tour, which will touch down in Europe and North America, beginning in March of 2016. Mendes also signed to Wilhelmina Models, a noted modeling agency. Don’t miss out on your chance to see the one and only Shawn Mendes live and in the flesh!
