LIFEHOUSE AT ITS CREATIVE PEAK, DELIVERS NEW ALBUM “ALMERIA”
Million-selling recording and live act Lifehouse has gotten back to its roots mindset-wise which significantly helped produced its latest album touted by both band insiders and tough crack critics as their “most daring and provocative release to date.”
“Almeria,” the name of the group’s sixth album, was crafted without the distractions usually brought by in-between touring and personal struggles that cuff the workflow of successful talents. The band worked with producers and co-writers Jude Cole and Jacob Kasher and A-list performers Peter Frampton and Natasha Bedingfield.
“It’s almost like we were reverting back to being teenagers in our parents’ garages, which felt really good,” frontman Jason Wade is quoted as saying. “We thought we were making this cool, 70s kind. We knew we had to shake things up creatively and go back to the drawing board, try something new.”

“Raw. Aggressive. Heartfelt. Uninhibited.”
When asked to describe “Four” in four words, Matt Tong, drummer of Bloc Party, blurted out, with a bit of snigger and momentary hesitation. “Four”, the band’s latest album, is a surprise to the world of music. When the band decided to go on a hiatus in 2009, the fans weren’t sure they were getting back together. The truth was the four members of the band weren’t even sure either. Two years after, Bloc Party came back to the studio with grittier riffs and hard-hitting beats. Indeed, it is just as Matt said: “Four” is raw, aggressive, heartfelt and uninhibited.
Matt Tong, who was in Dublin, Ireland with the band for their show in Olympia Theatre, graced the Filipino media with a phone interview on February 13. It was about 12 noon there (8pm in Manila) when we got to talk to him. Apparently, he was having his breakfast. In good spirits, he took us, bit by bit, through “Four”, the band’s future and some of his personal quirks. Read on for the interesting conversation that transpired that evening.
Hiatus after “Intimacy” – how has this break contributed into building “Four”?
“…The break was instrumental in its ensuring we can get back and be decent human beings to one another. I think we grew up during that time. Having a couple of years away from the band made us realize that we valued being in the band and we valued playing music for each other as well.”

Keane’s Takes Their First Step to our Stangeland
By: Sandra Laureano
They are finally here, and the world knows we have waited a long time. Keane, the British alternative band that introduced the finely melodic tunes of “Somewhere Only We Know”, “Everybody’s Changing” and “This Is the Last Time”, takes their first step in Manila. They are slated to take on the MOA Arena tonight.
With four successful albums released, the band had definitely gone a long way from being just another English band. With Tom Chaplin on vocals, Tim Rice-Oxley on piano/keyboard, Richard Hughes on drums and the recent and special addition of Jesse Quinn on bass, Keane’s music continues to make milestones in the world of music.
In good humor and quick quips on the depth and quality of their music, they graced the press with their candid yet sincere answers.
How would you define your music as “Keane”?
Richard: “The thing that ties us together is our songs tend to be very melodic, really emotionally honest, and very much about us. We’re not very interested in being cool, or being in fashion, or playing any kind of game. or trying to be popular.”
What makes Strangeland different from all previous albums?
Jesse: “I suppose, it’s partly because of me, I guess. It’s probably the best album.”
(Everyone in the band laughs.)
He continues, “This one is the first Keane album where everyone played together in a group, as a band, rather than layering things up…It is the most true to what Keane really is like.”
Tim: “It was all about breaking out of our little town, where we grew up and seek our fortunes and doing something with our lives. Strangeland is about reflecting on where we’ve got to, part is looking back and thinking out what we were dreaming of and whether we’ve achieved that.”
How would you like to be remembered?
